There are many wonderful Unity books about prayer and so you might ask – what makes Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett’s new book “How to Pray Without Talking to God” different … or why should I  buy it and read it.
I think that this new book  appeals to a very wide audience of readers including both long time Unity students & teachers, newcomers to the movement, and people from all walks of life.   Here is why:   the author has done extensive research and she weaves references to earlier books and metaphysical teachers throughout the text.  This results in  a book which is basically a comprehensive course in affirmative prayer.   In addition, the book is loaded with  practical advice on how to handle many common prayer situations and she explains why she recommends removing common “separation” language from our prayers and affirmations.    She gives crystal clear examples of how to pray from a consciousness of Truth and oneness.   I found  her book refreshingly readable yet challenging and thought provoking at the same time.   I plan to keep it in my personal library and I know I will refer to it again and again.    It is not a book to read once — it’s really a helpful manual of affirmative prayer, and in my opinion, it includes all the foundational material that one needs to thoroughly understand prayer from a Unity perspective.
We at Unity by the Sea will have an opportunity to meet Rev. Martella-Whitsett when she comes to Corpus Christi  May 20, 2012 to give the lesson and offer a workshop at Unity by the Sea.   I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to enhance their prayer experience.    It is available now in the bookstore.
